The Silent Hill IP has returned to the spotlight in recent time with releases Silent Hill 2 Remake & Silent Hill f. Moving forward, Konami is not ceasing the momentum it has confirmed. In one report, it is revealed intentions are to ship a game annually for the series. What is confirmed moving ahead is another remake; one for 1999’s original Silent Hill with Bloober Team returning to develop the project as part of a new partnership.

Additionally, Konami’s original roadmap for Silent Hill just recently delivered on another promise. The firm finally shipped ‘Return to Silent Hill’ in theaters. The production was touted with the return of director Christophe Gans to spearhead the second film: an adaptation of 2001’s Silent Hill 2. There was even an ARG experience for players to indulge leading up to the box office release.

Now after settling in theaters for a few weeks now, it is collected that Return to Silent Hill misses more than what it aims for – both from critics & audience. And while many are resistant to the film despite Gans first Silent Hill being the best of the series’ film adaptations, the same cannot be said about this new film. Leading up to the release, Gans did tell Variety there is still one more in the chamber if he is given the opportunity.

“If I have the opportunity, we’ll come back to ‘Silent Hill’ once more. I’m not looking at ‘Silent Hill’ only as a great video game. I’m looking at it as a piece of modern art. It has something really edgy and experimental. I will adapt another chapter because there are some that are extremely good, something very different from the first film, and now ‘Return to Silent Hill.’ I like this world, and I can see that plenty of people are thinking I’m doing a pretty good job.”

Despite the film facing pushback critically, Return to Silent Hill is reportedly tracking to potentially break even financially since its opening weekend from last month. While Box Office Mojo only recorded about $10.3 million globally, the worldwide earnings from Comscore accounts for nearly double that with $19.3 million.

Are you surprised with the turnout for Return to Silent Hill?
