It is no secret that Sega is returning to its roots. The firm addressed this with its ‘New Energy’ initiative for IPs like Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, and Streets of Rage. The firm already delivered on the first major project with Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. “Shinobi: Art of Vengeance honors its heritage while confidently establishing its own identity in the modern gaming landscape. It is a masterful blend of style and substance that feels both familiar and new,” our review reads.

Elsewhere, Sega CEO Shuji Utsumi expressed that this new effort is to recapture the ‘alternative’ feel of the Dreamcast era for the publisher. IPs such as Kid Chameleon, Altered Beast, and OutRun were also uncovered in later filed trademarks. Even Ecco The Dolphin is receiving its own ‘Complete’ edition through A&R Atelier as well.

On Friday, it was revealed by Sega that a new ‘Sega Universe’ project is underway. This new ambition from the Japanese publisher emphasizes on more retro franchises including NiGHTS, Out Run, and Fantasy Zone. You can read the full list of ‘2026 Selected’ titles revealed from the official website below:

  1. Dynamite Deka
  2. Fantasy Zone
  3. Guardian Heroes
  4. NiGHTS
  5. Out Run
  6. Rent a Hero
  7. Sakura Wars
  8. SGGG
  9. Streets of Rage

“Common sense? We decided to crash straight into it. We seriously chased the question, ‘Can’t this be more interesting?’ And carved out landscapes no one had ever seen before. Rough. Almost reckless. Sometimes spinning our wheels. But that’s exactly why it was real. Even when people laughed at the challenge, it shone brighter than anything else. Time has passed. With changing eras, some things were lost. Still, there is an impulse that never changed. A glare that never faded.”

The passage on the website continues: “Not to turn that recklessness into nostalgia. Not to say, ‘Those were the good old days.’ That frenzy is still alive somewhere, even now. Never rusted. Never dulled. So let’s do it again. Next time, even bolder.” Adding,” Games and characters born in the past. Transcending generations and borders, they continue to live on in the same universe—even today. Beyond games, expanding into film, music, fashion, and even further forms of entertainment. While changing form, the experience is constantly updated. Everything created here remains in someone’s memory and is passed on to the next generation.”
