Earlier this spring, Sony Interactive Entertainment was reported to be stepping back from its decision to ship titles on PC. Games such as Ghost of Yotei & Saros would be the catalyst for this decision. By May, it was officially confirmed by Sony Interactive Entertainment that the shift would be established for its titles. The extent is for single player games to be exclusive whilst live-service remain the exception.

So looking ahead, anticipated releases that were perceived to hit PC were now locked to PlayStation 5. Games like Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac Games. This will be confusing to users as the previous release – Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – arrived to Steam last winter. Another title that will not hit the platform is the recently announced God of War Laufey.

When presented at San Diego Comic Con, Sony Interactive Entertainment & Santa Monica Studio revealed that the new God of War standalone will be shipping next year in February 2027. You can watch the new teaser in the post below:

Another thing worth noting is that God of War Laufey will be one of the last titles to release physically. It was confirmed on July 1st that PlayStation will be eliminating further production for physical titles starting in January 2028. “This transition will enable us to align more closely with how most of our community prefers to access and play games today,” it said in a statement then.

Also attached to God of War Laufey & the physical news at PlayStation, writer Alanah Pearce revealed a new development on the matter. She disclosed that Sony has launched new guidelines for employees to follow in post-mortem to the announcement. She says this has been reverberating from her former colleagues. Are you excited for the new release for God of War Laufey?

God of War Laufey ships on February 16, 2027 for PlayStation 5.
