The Sega Mega Drive Mini was originally revealed back in April this year with an expected release date for Fall this year, but now we won’t see the shrunken classic console until next year.
Also known as the Genesis, the miniature console would include a list of fan favorite titles installed in the hardware. Along with an AC adaptor to use on modern televisions and monitors. It was announced on Sega’s official Twitter for the sudden delay.

Mentioned in the tweet that the now delayed console will be released as the Mega Drive Mini in Europe and Japan. And as the Genesis Mini in North America. Reasoning to hold off on the product’s commercial debut is to closely review the software and overall design of the console.
The latest trend of mini consoles originated looking at Nintendo for the NES and SNES Minis. Selling nostalgia in a more convenient and less spacious console worked well when first introduced back in 2016. With other companies like Sony hoping on the movement for tiny consoles with the reveal of the PlayStation Classic.
Sega recently announced that their collection of Genesis games will be coming to Nintendo Switch this Winter.
There’s no confirmed time frame for when we will expect the delayed mini console.
