Subscription-based services have become more and more frequent in the gaming industry varying from Netflix-esc Xbox Game Pass with libraries of titles to offering a new platform to play titles on like Google’s more recent Stadia. And now it seems that Apple might be entering the industry with their own form of a gaming subscription service. According to a recent report from Bloomberg, the tech giant is considering to create a video game-focused subscription service following the recent decrease in the company’s hardware sales.

A source within Apple sharing with the business outlet that the company is interested in bundling some of the most popular titles in the industry like Grand Theft Auto or Minecraft and offering them for a set price per month for users to pay. All collected revenue for each month will be handed to the developer based on the amount of screen time their titles get through the unannounced service.

But for free-to-play titles like Apex Legends or Fortnite, it was also mentioned that Apple isn’t looking to include the cost-free games as revenue will be generated through in-app purchases rather than through in-game transactions.

Alongside the unnamed subscription service, Bloomberg also shares that Apple is looking to offering a similar service for video as well as news also. Explaining that the upcoming services will be revealed as early as this Monday, March 25.

Recently, it was also discovered that both Wal-Mart and Snapchat are looking into entering the gaming scene with their own iteration of a gaming service/platform.

What are your thought on now Apple potentially joining the gaming industry?
