Last week, video game company Nintendo teased that a new motion-controlled experience will be coming to the current Nintendo Switch console with a full reveal for the ringed device in the following week. Fast forwarding to Thursday, Nintendo finally gave the name for the new product: Ring Fit Adventure.
Upon learning from the teaser, it was clearly transparent that Nintendo is aiming to create a new fitness model to compete against the previous Wii Fit which racked in roughly 44 million in units sold including the succeeding expansion, Wii Fit Plus. Equipping players with a ring to insert one Joy Con in and the other on a leg strap, Nintendo plans to revitalize exercise with this new experience on the Switch.

While players who use this new device will see this product as an adventure game, the title however requires you to move your body in certain motions to explore and progress further into your journey. The newly titled Ring Con is said to be a unique device depending on the motions or pressure you put on the gadget will respond to how you control your character in the game. The ring controller will responder as your upper body while the leg strap is implemented for movement below the torso.
Either it be running, jumping, paddle boarding, or flying, each technique holds a different form of movement to trigger the action in the game. Like already said that the game is an action RPG, players will also run into a host of collectable coins and even enemies along the way. Fighting hostiles can be done through fit skills that imitate different exercises using the Ring Con. With over 40 different skills, each one will react differently depending on the class of enemy.
Color coding these skills on different focused workouts: red for arms, yellow for core, blue for legs, and green for yoga. Using the correspond color of the skill on the enemy will deal more damage compared to a mismatched color. Blocking antagonizing attacks can be done through the ‘ab guard’ which explains itself to put the ring against your abdominal muscles.

Being an adventure game, progression will be rewarded based on levels completed and choices of orchestrated skills when in battle. Progression will be used towards unlocking more fit skills as you climb the level ladder. Nintendo emphasizes that leveling up will differ on the player as everyone should go at what is comfortable for their physical being. The Ring Con can be adjusted to fancy everyone’s specific character to better the experience also. The game even goes to the length to illustrate proper form for users who might have never worked out prior to the experience.
And while the title does advertise adventure for the main gameplay aspect, Ring Fit Adventure also features a Quick Play feature which covers more specific workouts in different segments. Using the Simple mode will help players target approximate muscles to workout with unique modes for each one. While Minigames will expand on an overall workout through fun games like racing, punching, and pottery. The Sets category is the most tradition exercise mode to focus on specific muscle groups to workout particularly.
Seeing how Nintendo tends to franchise on new device, Ring Fit Adventure is expected to be the first of a batch of different software that the Ring Con and leg strap will be available for in the coming future.
Ring Fit Adventure will be available on October 18, 2019 for Nintendo Switch for $79.99.
