Just shy of a week away, Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds will officially launch upon the three major platforms. While Nintendo Switch users are guaranteed a port; that will not be arriving for quite some time. However, for Xbox and PlayStation users, publisher Private Division shared that those who owner the beefier iterations will be given the upper hand on a better looking experience of next week’s space exploring RPG.
On Twitter, the company revealed that both Xbox One as well as PlayStation 4 will receive support for 4K visuals which will produce the best graphical output on both platforms.
The @OuterWorlds is enhanced for both Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. It includes 4K textures and resolution on Xbox One X and PC, and upsamples to 4K from 1440p on PS4 Pro. It looks great across all platforms and we’re excited for players to experience The Outer Worlds on October 25th.

PC is also mentioned to support the same visual resolution of and textures as on Xbox One X. However, the PlayStation 4 Pro is stated to “upsample” the game’s resolution from 1440p: this meaning that the upgraded console’s technique to provide 4K resolution is only artificial as the competing platforms will run natively at 3840×2160.
Interesting enough, the tweet does not share if performance will also receive any system advantages upon release next week. Maybe there will be a performance option which might unlock the framerate or already comes opened?
As for the upcoming Switch version, the chances of seeing the same resolutions being pushed out on Nintendo’s console is less likely to be the case. Rather the game receiving a port at a stable 900p would be more to look at before even thinking about a potential 4K resolution.
And a PSA for those unaware; The Outer Worlds will be available at launch next Friday for owners of the Xbox Game Pass subscription service on both console and PC.
The Outer Worlds will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on October 15, 2019.
