The grasp towards the next generation of new console hardware is just a year away, and there is plenty we still have to learn about the upcoming Project Scarlett and the PlayStation 5 by next holiday season. It wasn’t until earlier this month that Sony confirmed the next console will be labeled the PlayStation 5: but of course we know this couldn’t be the last of Sony’s line of PlayStations, right?
According to a line of trademarks that have been filed by Sony Interactive Entertainment in Japan recently, it was revealed that Sony has placed one for the next five generations of PlayStation following next year’s addition. Meaning that this prematurely confirms the knowledge of the PlayStation 6, PlayStation 7, PlayStation 8, PlayStation 9, and PlayStation 10.
Below you can view each of the trademarks for the next five PlayStation generations:
Noted that Sony Interactive Entertainment has used this business model to get a head start on their production of its PlayStation consoles seeing that trademarks leading all the way up to next year’s PlayStation 5 have been filed back in 2006 alongside the approaching PlayStation 3 and following PlayStation 4 which arrived in 2013. But this new list of trademarks pushing for the next five waves of new hardware is to a scale that Sony has yet to do until now which could look to the next few decades of PlayStation consoles.
Looking ahead that Sony Interactive Entertainment only preserved the “PS” for the far ahead collection of gaming units, it is expected that Sony will adjust the trademark’s name at a later date upon the proper announcement for each piece of hardware.
In other PlayStation-focused news, the developer’s kit for the approaching PlayStation 5 have been revealed and more recently a full reality render of the unit has been released into the wild. You can read the initial coverage here.
