Talk of the approaching PlayStation 5 which is scheduled to release sometime later this year has grew quiet a bit since the initial detail of the unannounced hardware earlier in 2019. However, the conversation intensified when it was shared last Thursday that Sony will be present at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) event in Las Vegas to host a press conference. Which gave a heavy implication that something regarding the approaching unit would be announced.
With Sony given the spotlight on the show floor, this would give the company a platform to openly share what is expected to be a lot for the newest installment for the PlayStation line of hardware. Already knowing the existence of the Xbox Series X, it is a matter of time that Sony would reveal some tangible information for the PlayStation 5.
Or that is what you might have thought. During CES, Sony did discuss the next PlayStation by revealing the logo for the new console. Aside from what will brand this year’s newest console, we still do not have an idea of what the hardware itself will actually look like nor do we know what first-part titles will be coming to the platform at launch.
Granted, Sony does discuss some of the capabilities that will be offered with the PlayStation 5. Some are reiterated like ray tracing technology integration while other features like 3D Audio and Adaptive Triggers are highlighted for the new console. You can view the features image below:

Sony also discusses some of the current achievements that the ongoing PlayStation 4 still holds with an update on sales figures and reflects on prior consoles to invigorate innovation for newer hardware. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO reveals that PlayStation 4 now has surpassed 106 million sold units, 38.8 million PlayStation Plus members, and even shares that PlayStation VR has sold about 5 million units. Additionally shares that about 1.15 billion games for PlayStation 4 has been sold since launch.
Elsewhere at CES today, AMD held a press conference and at one point during a presentation showcased a full view of the Xbox Series X. Initially, it was reported that the holiday-scheduled console would be comprised of two HDMI ports & USB-C ports, but was later clarified by Microsoft to be inaccurate. So it is still left unclarified what slots will occupy the backside of the newest Xbox.
What are your thoughts on Sony’s new logo for the PlayStation 5?
PlayStation 5 is expected to release later in 2020.
