Typically when the conversation of big-bulked publishers surfaces, specifically about THQ Nordic, the discussion usually asks who the company has acquired next. However, this time around it isn’t that story with a new game studio under new ownership. Instead, it was discovered that the Austrian-based firm is actually opening a new studio which no one would have ever guessed.
According to a press release made by the publisher, the publisher discloses the commencement of the newly founded Nine Rocks Games. This new developer is shared to be based in Bratislava, Slovakia and will hone their attention towards that “shooter/survival genre” on a new, unannounced title.
Here is what THQ Nordic had to share on the new developer forming:
I personally think it is always a great sign in business, when every just seems to fall into place. The right people at the right time having the right mindset and a meaningful conversation… We are very happy to welcome the Slovak team onboard and are excited about our first project with Nine Rocks Games.
THQ Nordic CEO, Klemens Kreuzer
In the history of the capabilities that this new studio musters, the press release tells of prior releases from the team. Projects like Soldier of Fortune 3, Chaser, and DayZ to be some of their most known work. “With THQ Nordic as a partner, our roster of talent found perfect conditions to collaborate on our first joint project,” the studio’s CEO David Curcak informs on the studios founding.
While this is a different change of pace for THQ Nordic to form a studio, it wasn’t too long ago that the publisher shared its last acquisition. Back in December of 2019, it was revealed that THQ Nordic officially acquired Little Nightmare developer Tarsier Studios. You can read the full report by heading here.
