For seasoned Apex Legends players on PC, you should be well aware that the game is currently unique to Electronic Arts’ in-house launcher Origin. And while many would prefer a PC version of the game to be available for other storefronts, that currently is not the case for the publisher. However, that will not be for long at least.

The firm back in October shared that Electronic Arts is in the works of returning its lineup of properties to Steam after about a decade of Origin being established. Soon, users will be given the option to play on Steam or Origin – essentially the preference of the consumer. The company made its first move with Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Now discovered in a new finding, the Titanfall developer will continue to be the frontrunner for EA’s return to Steam is seems.

According to Apex Legends dataminer @Biast12 on Twitter, he shared to have recovered a familiar potato that will be used for a gun charm for the battle royale. You can view the image in the tweet imbedded below:

That’s right; GLaDOS from Portal 2 is being utilized as a cosmetic for Apex Legends. While this does not show to be a significant addition to the title only being a minimal add-on for the game. It does, however, entail that a Steam version will be underway. When properties extend support for new platforms, some will utilize pre-existing franchises unique to Valve to divide the version to other systems. Previously, we have seen this done with Super Bomberman R when the game shipped to Steam back in 2018.

Retracing our steps back to the statement made in October once again, Electronic Arts also shared that among Apex Legends, fans can also expect current EA-published releases like Battlefield V, FIFA 20, The Sims 4, and Unravel 2. Since the battle royale has yet to receive its proper announcement, it is hard to determine when Apex Legends alongside the other mentioned properties will arrive to Steam.

In another discussion from Respawn Entertainment, the developer stated that cross-platform play is still a priority for Apex Legends. And if the game is close to releasing on Steam, this might be the first step for that new feature. Titles like Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a prime example of tested cross-play prior to console support with the feature being implemented between Windows 10 and Steam: so the same is suspected to be applied for Steam and Origin. If that is the case, cross-save is also expected to debut alongside.

Do you plan on laying Apex Legends on Steam or continue on Origin?

Ape Legends is out now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC via Origin.
