Last week, The Pokémon Company hosted a Pokémon Presents showcase to introduce some coming additions to the Pokémon franchise. Most notably the announcement of New Pokémon Snap – the coming title for 2021 would reiterate on the classic N64 title with a myriad of new Pokémon to photograph and study since the original 1999 game only included the first two generations of Pokémon.
However, that was not all the firm had planned to reveal as President & CEO Tesunekazu Ishihara announced that there is one additional “big project” set to be revealed one week later. Well now that day has arrived as Ishihara has returned with this week’s Pokémon Presents today to announce Pokémon Unite.
What this new title is stands as a strategic, team-based experience where players band together to earn experience and combat against other users online. The objective is to catch Pokémon scattered on the stage and level up the Pokémon you play as. Doing so will unlock new moves and can even evolve your respected Pokémon when on the field. Players can decide which attacks to focus on to decide how they will play the game to benefit from the match.
When players earn enough experience interacting in-game, they will be able to perform Unite Moves that could turn the direction of the game. Said moves are unique to Pokémon Unite and are essential to release devastating damage to those who fall in its way. With up to ten players – five on each team – there will surely be some encounters where a Unite Move will come in handy during a stressful game.
During the presentation, The Pokémon Company disclosed that the game will be coming to both Nintendo Switch alongside mobile devices. To open more opportunity for players to find games, cross-platform play between both platforms will be available at launch of the game. However, a release date was not spared during the showcase.
Also today, The Pokémon Company officially release Pokémon Mix Café. You can read the full rundown of the free title by heading here.
