
Months prior to the official debut of the PlayStation 5, the unit itself was reported at the time to be facing a potential wall in regards to mass producing that could possibly indulge on the matters of a shortage for the approaching holiday season. In February, it was disclosed that due to the decision to install a specifically expensive cooling system for the new console, Sony was in the territory of facing a shortage of said components when also combating against smart phone manufacturers at the time.
The report then resulted with a related writing later in April stating that production at launch would be less in quantity to its predecessor. In that, the PlayStation 5 would only face about 6 million units prepared for its holiday release while the current PlayStation 4 received an additional million systems. With the firm leading in sales for the current generation, this could be damaging if not enough systems were manufactured in time for release to match the demand.
However, now that looks to be a undermined issue now as Sony is planning to nearly double down in production in anticipation for the PlayStation 5’s retail debut. According to Nikkie Asian Review, the outlet has learned that Sony is now aiming to develop about 9 million systems over the previous 5 – 6 million previously reported.
The market-focused outlet expands on the reporting by stating that the decision to up Sony’s production count will be to match the increased demand which is a direct product from the still ongoing pandemic.
During the pandemic, the gaming industry witnessed a record number of online player additions as more consumers are considering gaming for entertainment at home.

Elsewhere reported from Bloomberg, the outlet shares that Sony’s additional production of systems will arrive in the final stretch of month in 2021 for the fiscal year. Sony is reported to be avoiding the company stock tanking following the release of the system – which happened to Nintendo after the Nintendo Switch hit store shelves.
Not only has Sony looked to be aligning with the potential outcry for more systems to be ready for its global launch later this year, but also predicted it in advanced previously.
