The trend of video game-adapted shows continues to grow as properties like Konami’s Castlevania commences its third season next month and the chart-breaking debut of CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher on Netflix. Now it looks that Activision Blizzard is preparing to enter the entertainment race as well involving Overwatch and Diablo with their own respected series.

Discovered on LinkedIn, more specifically on Activision Blizzard co-president Nick van Dyk’s profile, there are two shows on the way for both online-focused IPs. Reading further into his account cites that van Dyk is an executive producer for the unannounced project whilst providing further detail on its current status.

A TV adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s IP, rendered in anime style. The show is currently in pre-production for distribution worldwide through Netflix.

This detail does come to be a resurfacing report derived from summer 2018. Originally, it was reported that Andrew Crosby, who penned the script for the Hellboy reboot starring David Harbour, would also be involved with drafting a script for that as well. Speculation also pointed to suggest that the series would also follow the footsteps of Castlevania for the animated approach as well at the time.

Elsewhere on his profile, the account tells that van Dyk is also involved with a similar project using the Overwatch property. Reading the description tells van Dyk “with my creative partner, [I] developed and sold an animated series based [on] Blizzard’s Overwatch franchise.” Unlike the development on the Diablo series, this however looks to just be part of a larger discussion with plenty to still develop before we see the Overwatch show come to fruition.

As of lately, video game-translated entertainment has been on a steady rise like it or not. This becoming transparently evident with the box office release of Detective Pikachu last year and this past month with Sonic the Hedgehog which accumulated more revenue in its opening weekend.
