To refresh your mind if you might have not known, it was back in 2019 that PlatinumGames announced content of any form will not be following the release of Astral Chain, which at the time was scheduled to arrive later that summer. Unfortunate to see the news as the debut for the IP already looked to shine bright even before it released, and the title proved to do just that even after the launch date came and went seeing what the game does in the flesh.
It is pretty insane to see the boundaries pushed with the latest PlatinumGames project as other games that evidently look to be the same to scale on the Switch, but cost the experience to suffer with blotched texturing and slower performance. Regardless, with a title to that caliber released exclusively on Nintendo’s platform, you would expect the game to sell pretty well.
And the game actually did, according to the Hideki Kamiya Astral Chain performed very well when speaking to Famitsu on the reception of the game. Even more, the game’s Director Takahisa Taura went to declare that the project sold past initial expectations for the title.
Thankfully, Astral Chain has sold above expectations.

Taura in a previous interview back in June relatively gave an explanation as for why the studio decided not to expand on the game with post-launch content as PlatinumGames instead planned to release a trilogy for Astral Chain. The team felt it was necessary to witness the initial reception of the game before settling with creating more installments later on, that even meaning to sacrifice addition add-ons also.
Derived from a previous statement, “if the game sells well then we may see how the story continues” is self-explanatory. The title not only met expectations, but greatly overcame the original bar set for Astral Chain giving the implication that a sequel will be birthed from the latest discovery. PlatinumGames following the interview did not disclose that a sequel is in active development as of yet.
In other PlatinumGames-related news, the developer alongside Square Enix announced a new hack and slash title Babylon’s Fall. You can read the full report for the upcoming game by heading here.
