Over at the Xbox Series side of things, the platform despite its claims for being the “Most Powerful Console” continues to be met with shortcomings since its launch. Following the release of the console in late 2020, several marketed titles such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Dirt 5, and others faced issues performing optimally on the new system. Microsoft addressed the concern in one response following the development.
And while the platform is still more notable for the increased numbers of 120hz-supported titles on its platform compared to PlayStation, this issue still arose time and time again for more multiplatform releases where it performed better on the latter system. Again, this is said to be the case for Baldur’s Gate 3 according to Larian Studios following the recent reveal with Xbox Series X|S absent from this.
In one recent exchange on the official subreddit for Baldur’s Gate 3, community manager Molly Carroll made a statement on the PlayStation 5 version of the game. In that, it was not a exclusivity agreement but rather the Xbox Series port facing “technical issues” refraining the developer from shipping on time for the August release date.
“Xbox players, we’ve seen your questions about if/when you can expect Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox. We’ve had an Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 in the works for some time, but we have run into some technical issues – particularly with split-screen co-op. We are still working on an Xbox version of BG3, but we’re not yet confident enough to announce it,” she wrote.
“We don’t like announcing anything until we’re ready, because we don’t want to get peoples hopes up until we’re sure we can deliver. There’s no platform exclusivity preventing us from releasing BG3 on Xbox day and date, should that be a technical possibility. If and when we do announce further platforms, we want to make sure each version lives up to our standards & expectations. Thanks for understanding!”
