Closing in on the five year mark for this generation of consoles, the conversation of what is next to come is already out there with the recent leak of Project Scarlet from Microsoft. Expected to arrive in the next two years, 2020, what Sony has planned for their assumed PlayStation 5 hasn’t had much that we can expand on as with Scarlet.

For titles that we can confirm for the next line of platforms is from Bethesda. This meaning the recently revealed Elder Scrolls VI and Starfield. Each having just teaser trailers, these two games are still in early development and what we could expect for an next generation title could be anything as of right now. Either it being a higher and more stable framerate, enhanced visuals or even streaming the games via online could be what we will see in the upcoming years.

In an interview, Pete Hines discussed spoke on the approaching generation with The Telegraph through Yahoo.

He told the outlet about the recent growth of the company through their recent acquisitions and the overall experience in the industry. Though expanding on genres from developers like id Software and Tango Softworks, Hines emphasized on what the publisher learned from creating games and having a smoother production process for when it’s ready to ship.

When asked about what he expects in the future from the new hardware, Hines responded saying:

I am curious to see what it looks like and how it’s different. I’m privy to some stuff which obviously I can’t really talk about, but there is also a lot that I’m not sure on what it’s going to look like. And more importantly how big a shift we can expect.

Commenting after the statement, Hines tells The Telegraph that in the transition between generations, the trend of one from to another won’t be as visible when compared to the cross from PlayStation 2 and Xbox to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Looking at the evolution for this generation, less was as dramatic than previously so what really matters is the games now. Stating “What really matters is what the developers think” Hines says. “What do they need and what are the kind of power and features they are looking for.”

The decision for the two titles reveal was influenced from the different paths taken from the publisher. With Bethesda branching out with multiplayer looking at Elder Scrolls Legends and the upcoming Fallout 76, this is more foreign for what Bethesda is know for. Hines told the outlet that the games mentioned are very different and once 76 ships out, they will be returning to their roots as they work on their next game [Starfield].

Confirming in his response that Starfield will be coming out before Elder Scrolls VI. As both were already confirmed for newer consoles back in E3, Bethesda wanted to make sure those asking got the answer they wanted. With both being the next planned titles from Bethesda, they wanted to make sure the questions would slim down after the reveal even though we won’t see the games for possibly half a decade at most.

Other titles that could meet the same release frame for next generation platforms is 343 Industries’ Halo: Infinite. Also being revealed at E3, the only trailer was a demonstration of the game’s new engine. The full version of what comes is still being developed and the chances of seeing the game on the new Xbox is greater, or possibly even a cross generation title. Another is Cyberpunk 2077. Confirmed that the first-person RPG is still in early pre-alpha, we could be waiting another two or more years for the full release.

Pete Hines recently spoke on the future of Wolfenstein, confirming the third title in the trilogy.
