
In the ongoing properties for Blizzard Entertainment, there are also follow-ups that are just as anticipated from the firm. Accordingly, Diablo IV & Overwatch 2 are among the most sought out for titles from the firm in the coming years. However, its releases respectively are still beyond 2021. Previously, Blizzard Entertainment pressed the two are not to be arriving in 2021.
In the meantime, Blizzard Entertainment went on to ship new information for its properties – especially Overwatch 2. In that, it is revealed that the new game is to feature a dramatic change to its team organization: there will be 5v5 matchmaking which limits teams to one tank. Additionally, the original Overwatch is to receive a cross-play update more recently.
But according to the latest earnings call from Blizzard Entertainment, Gematsu transcribes to reveal the releases for both Overwatch 2 alongside Diablo IV are being pushed.
As we have worked with new leadership in Blizzard and within the franchises themselves, particularly in certain key creative roles, it has become apparent that some of the Blizzard content planned for next year will benefit from more development time to reach its full potential.
While we are still planning to deliver a substantial amount of content from Blizzard next year, we are now planning for a later launch for Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV than originally envisaged.
These are two of the most eagerly anticipated titles in the industry, and our teams have made great strides towards completion in recent quarters. But we believe giving the teams some extra time to complete production and continue growing their creative resources to support the titles after launch will ensure that these releases delight and engage their communities for many years into the future.
“These decisions will push out the financial uplift that we had expected to see next year. But we are confident that this is the right course of action for our people, our players, and the long-term success of our franchises.” However, that is not the only discovery made from the financial release on behalf of Blizzard Entertainment.
From that, Blizzard Entertainment co-lead Jen Oneal is departing from her position at the firm. Indicated by Bloomberg Tech’s Jason Schreier, that leaves Mike Ybarra as the sole lead for Blizzard Entertainment. This comes after the previous departure of Blizzard Entertainment President J.
