Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II Confirms The Return Of Special Ops In Latest Livestream

Just like in 2019, developer Infinity Ward is continuing its new campaign of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot. Now, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is on the horizon and more news continues to roll out. Previously, Activision released the full schedule for the Closed & Open Beta plans for the game taking place later in September.

Additionally, Warzone will be receiving a sequel in the name of ‘Warzone 2.0’. However, it was soon after that Infinity Ward shared purchased content will not carry over to the new experience. Not only that, the future of Call of Duty is put into question following a statement from PlayStation boss Jim Ryan. The President & CEO told the letter from Microsoft Gaming’s Phil Spencer to be “inadequate” when dealing for the franchise three years after the Microsoft acquisition takes place.

Now this Friday during the Call of Duty Next livestream, Activision & Infinity Ward reveals Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II will be returning traditional Special Ops. You can watch the segment in the video below:

“Continue the story after the Modern Warfare II Campaign concludes with this in-depth two-player cooperative experience allowing you to explore large-scale hot zones with your fellow squadmate. Assemble your two-person strike team for a number of branching operations against [REDACTED], available at launch.” Unlike Modern Warfare, this mode will not be tied to exclusivity at release.

The game mode has been tossed around from other franchises as well since its debut in 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Its sequel, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 welcomed the game mode once again. And 2012’s Halo 4 even featured its own ‘Spartan Ops’ then. 2019’s Gears 5 can be considered its own take with Extraction featuring the same structure as well.
