This past weekend happened to offer an earful of exciting new details that are anticipating to ship for the currently and still growing in popularity Warzone for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. In an interview with GamerGen, Narrative Director for Infinity Ward Taylor Kurosaki shared that both the battle royale & plunder modes are expecting a release for next-generation systems.

Now in a separate segment of the interview elsewhere, Kurosaki also supports the information once again by stating that Warzone is expected to be around when newer installments in the Call of Duty universe ships later on. When questioned about the inevitability of new releases for the series arriving, Kurosaki explains that Warzone could be the bridging element that intertwines all subgeneres under the Call of Duty name.

“Call of Duty has been on a very regular cadence for many many years, and Warzone has made us rethink exactly how best to release new content and how to integrate it. Call of Duty is a genre in itself, there are different branches in the Call of Duty tree, but they’re all connected in some ways,” Kurosaki explains in response. “Warzone will be the through line that connects all of the different various sub-franchises of Call of Duty. It’s going to be really cool to see how the different sub-franchises sort of come in and out of focus, but Warzone will be the one constant.”

And that would be as expected seeing the already-mentioned popularity of Warzone atop of how accessible the mode is since the game does not cost users a dime. Even more, in contrast to the preceding Blackout which shipped for 2018’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Warzone offers full on cross-platform play between all supported systems.

However, it will be interesting to see how this will actually play out when reflecting on previous claims. In a report by Video Game Chronicles back in March, the outlet shares that sources involved with the next Call of Duty installment for 2020 will be a Black Ops reboot. But one of the more tender segments of the report happens to be a project aimed for 2021. The report goes on to disclose that Call of Duty: World War 2 studio Sledgehammer Games is working on a separate battle royal release.

Warzone as of late has continued to grasp the thriving player base and beyond due to the free release earlier in 2020. In an announcement made last month in April, Activision shared that Warzone has been subjected to over 50 million users within its first month of going live.
