In one of Bungie’s latest posts on their official website, the studio has no tolerance for cheaters and revealed “anyone found to be cheating will be permabanned from playing Marathon forever.”
The blog post from the Marathon Dev Team outlines the game’s Networking and Security and goes into detail about how it will handle cheaters. The dedicated servers in Marathon are fully authoritative on key combat and looting actions, providing a layer of protection against cheating. The post shares.
Bungie also says, “We are committed to making your experiences on Tau Ceti IV fun, engaging, and fair. We will be continuously monitoring the live game and will make frequent updates and investments to our network technologies and security measures.”
The statement continues:
We are taking a strong stance against cheating and anyone found to be cheating or developing cheats will be permanently banned from playing Marathon forever, no second chances. That said, no system is perfect so we will have an appeals system to monitor for any issues in detection.
Bungie is doing the opposite of many other games, where cheaters seem to get at least a second chance. This should hopefully steer some cheaters away from what will be a great gameplay experience for players.
Players will get a taste of Marathon this weekend in the open playtest starting today, February 26, running through March 2. Marathon officially releases on March 5 for Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and PC.
