Now that Respawn Entertainment has released not only the first glimpse of the coming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but also the extended version of the demo that gives a better portrayal of the November-aimed title, fans anticipating the title have the full grasp of the upcoming title regarding the core gameplay. However, there is plenty fans still do not know a lot about with the limited amount of time remaining leading towards the title’s release Game Director Stig Asmussen shared in an recent interview.

When speaking with Edge Magazine, Asmussen tells the publication that regarding Respawn’s upcoming Star Wars title, the combat draws quite a bit of inspiration from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Discussing that being a fan of the developer, FromSoftware, that the objective was to find how to take influence rather than just recreating what is already been done.

I’ve been a huge FromSoftware fan since King’s Field. I mean, King’s Field II is one of my favorite games ever. But it’s not about you liking a game, and trying to make that game myself. It’s more, ‘What can we learn about what’s fun about it?’

Though the March-release samurai title does hone a more intricate and tactical-based combat system, the game does not limit the player due to their stamina, but rather punishes the player on their performance as the AI keeps them in check. Lead Combat Designer Jason de Heras adds on that there is a similarity between the two titles. “It just confirmed to us that you don’t have to limit everything the player does; let them have a little more agency, and then let the AI give them a slap on the wrist or a punch in the face. It was a positive thing for us to know there was a game that was similar to ours. Very similar.”

Seen from the short glimpses of the game’s combat presented in the demo that was shown off last month, that might not have been apparent at the first glance, but once rewatching you can see the similarities referenced by the two developers. Respawn previously stated that Jedi Fallen Order will feature a strong story with no online aspect, so given the amount of time to focus on important elements to leave a lasting impression on players, it is expected that the studio has utilized the time exceed expectations for the forthcoming title.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be available on November 15, 209 for Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4.
