As part of the new age in live-service from Sony Interactive Entertainment, thus far has been a success to say the least. With the release of Helldivers 2 this winter, it has sold more than 12 million units. And although a phenomenon at the time, it was recently reported that a glowing majority of its players already moved on, it is discovered.
Additionally, the next push for this live-service effort is Concord. The first release from developer Firewalk Studios offers a class-based, arena shooter framed similar to Overwatch. Coming later this August, the game is to launch on console & PC. Similar to Helldivers 2, Concord is of course the next premium live-service release. And with that is priced at the static $40 price tag.
Recently, Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed that the beta for Concord is coming this July. On July 12th to July 14th the closed beta will be active for those that pre-ordered Concord. A separate open beta will be live the following July 18th to July 21st for all users on both PC as well as PlayStation 5.
From the very first gameplay prototypes to getting the game ready before launch in August, playtesting Concord every day has been a defining aspect of development and core to our culture at Firewalk and our mission of delivering great-feeling multiplayer. There’s simply no substitute for getting your hands on a controller or mouse and keyboard, squadding up as a team, and experiencing the game for yourself. That’s why we’re excited to share that your first chance to play Concord during our upcoming beta is just a couple of short weeks away!
Bethany Hulse, Firewalk Studios Community Development Lead
“You won’t have to wait until launch to find your favorite Freegunner(s). During the Concord beta weekends, you’ll be able to play as all 16 of the Freegunners that will be available at launch. Whether you like to run and gun, lock down an area, lay down fire from afar, or back up your team, there are Freegunners for players of a wide range of playstyles and skill levels.
“From familiar faces like Haymar, Vale, Lennox, 1-0FF, and Star Child from the reveal trailer to other members of the Northstar crew, like It-Z, Teo, Bazz, and more, you’ll get to experiment and learn how each character brings distinct strategic abilities, traversal and gunplay feel, and, most of all, your own personality to the battlefield.”
In total, four maps are promised for both betas: Freewater, Water Hazard, Star Chamber, and Shock Risk. A fifth map ‘Bone Mines’ will be added to the mix with the debut of the open beta. Game modes includes Trophy Hunt, Cargo Run, and Clash Point. The team will also feed in lore for the game during these playtests. “when the Open Beta starts, we’ll introduce new cinematic vignettes in-game to give you a small glimpse into how the Northstar crew’s stories will unfold each week.”
How excited are you to get your hands on Concord early?
