As we could expect from a Crash Bandicoot title, It’s About Time sports the classic playable characters like the titular Bandicoot protagonist and Coco. But interesting enough, Dr. Cortex is now shown to be a playable character as well which is a first in the history of the franchise. Toys for Bob, the studio behind the coming fourth installment, shared that the new title will center its plot and more so the gameplay around time.
“It’s a play on both the fact that we’ve been waiting for so long plus it’s a game that’s literally about time,” Toys for Bob’s Paul Yan shared in the post-trailer interview. When discussing It’s About Time, Yan also elaborates on the new masks that intertwines with the core mechanics: time and gravity. When equipped by Crash, he will be given the ability to control either plane that will help in certain levels. There are four altogether, but only two for now were revealed.
Yan in the same interview tells Geoff Keighley that players will have the option to switch characters seamlessly when playing. Hopping between Crash and Coco will not be different, but Dr. Cortex will have his own unique playstyle that allows him to place certain platforms on the level.
