For those who might have forgot by now, Deep Silver announced back in E3 2014 that the sequel to Techland’s open-world zombie title with Yager Development taking over to develop the then upcoming title. Following later into 2015 publisher Deep Silver announced to pull the plug on Yager’s development on the game and substitute the studio with Sumo Digital. Now it seems that Dead Island 2 has been orphaned once again of its developer.

According to ex-Yager developer Jan David Hassel, his now-deleted tweet reads that the 2014 announced title has switched its developer once again to Deep Silver’s UK-based Dambuster Studios. “Supposedly at DS Dambusters now? Kind of lost track after [Deep Silver] took it from us at YAGER.” Meaning that the current Crackdown 3 developer has their hands out of the mix for Dead Island 2.

It’s noteworthy to mention that Dambuster prior to the recent tweet has jobs listed for a Senior level Designer and Facial Animator specifying with experience in Unreal Engine 4. What makes this unique though is that the studio’s previous title Homefront: The Revolution was crafted with CryEngine, while the unreleased title has been worked on with Unreal 4.

For what is a sad sight currently for Dead Island 2 in development hell as the game was originally anticipated for a 2015 release is now unknown leading into 2019: hopefully this is the last halt in the title’s development for those who still have hope for the title. Though Deep Silver did reassure fans that the title is on the way, fans need more tangible roof before they have full hope for the game’s release.
