
From witnessing Bungie and its efforts following the official cut off from publisher Activision in regards to Destiny 2, the game has turned out for the best since the decision. Following the departure for complete ownership of the franchise, Bungie went head first for development on the next-generation version of Destiny 2 at the time.
Leading ahead, Bungie also orchestrated a three-year roadmap for Destiny 2 content. With an expansion for each year and ending by 2022, the firm adds surely has more additions including seasonal content that is already on the team’s playbook as well. However, thanks in part to the difficulties of working during a pandemic, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is said to find a new release date for next year rather than making its 2021 scheduled release.
Other plans that Bungie already developed for Destiny 2 includes cross-platform play. Although available between respected console families already, the developer is looking to expand that. In that, cross-play between all systems is aimed for 2021, the studio shared. In a new blog post on Thursday, Bungie announces a beta is to commence next week for the feature.
While our current goal is for Cross Play to ship in Season 15, we have a list of things to do before it’s ready, one of which is a Beta starting early next week. Yes, you read that right! You are formally invited to the Destiny 2 Cross Play Beta. This will serve as a short, sweet, and important moment in the development of this feature.
From May 25 through May 27, a unique Vanguard Strikes Cross Play Beta playlist will be available to all players in Destiny 2. You’ll be matchmade with Guardians playing on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and Stadia. As you fight through the enemy waves of Darkness, our teams will be scouring data and performing a multitude of actions to test the integrity of our upcoming Cross Play system.
In addition to the limited-time beta for Destiny 2 cross-play arriving in the coming days, players that complete respected tasks will be awarded with exclusive in-game items. “As a token of our appreciation for your time, any players who complete three strikes in the Vanguard Strikes Cross Play Beta playlist will be rewarded with the unique ‘Stars Crossed’ emblem.”
Outside of Destiny 2, but still involving Bungie, the firm is diving headfirst for esports. Although Destiny did not achieve that unlike its previous franchise Halo, the new project currently in incubation is suspected to delve deeper into the competitive scene according to a recent job listing.
