What some might call an overlooked title on the PlayStation 4, The Order: 1886 though its above average reception, has gained a well populated fanbase since its 2015 release. As of recently, there has been talks of a possible sequel from the title’s developer.

In a recent interview with Polygon, the outlet spoke with Ready At Dawn’s Creative Director Ru Weerasuriya on the future of the game. The Order: 1886 was originally an highly anticipated title from the studio for it being an upcoming franchise for the young PlayStation 4. But following the game’s launch, it was received poorly for its short story and lack of game changing mechanics.

Weerasuriya stated in the interview when asked what’s next for the game’s universe following how it was received:

[The] IP was built with a lot of work behind it. Even before the release of the game, we put a lot of work on the foundations of why each of these characters are who they are, where they came from, what is behind the story… We asked, ‘Where did it start? Where is it going?’ There is a lot of [story] that was already written, because we felt, again, writing a game and just kind of isolating it to just the story that it would’ve been was not enough for us.

Showed from Weerasuriya’s response, the possibility of a sequel for The Order: 1886 isn’t ruled out. With the amount of effort and backstory to why the characters exist in the game’s world could support a sequel if it doesn’t continue with the title’s protagonist.

Those who are eager to see more from the could-be series will have to continue waiting as this is still speculation. Nothing was confirmed from the interview, but it does give hope to see more from Ready At Dawn on the project in the future.
