Although the wait between the first two Dying Light games were a full decade, the same cannot be said for the newest title Dying Light: The Beast. Despite being a standalone entry, Techland insists it is essentially the third installment. “Maybe the project started with a slightly smaller ambition, but we got so excited about Kyle Crane returning. We got so excited about, actually, what we can do with this new iteration of the engine, how confident we feel about the gameplay mechanics.”

And after the game was hit with a minor delay this past fall, Dying Light: The Beast is already available on all major platforms. Even more, in similar Techland fashion there is a roadmap of post-launch plans for the title as well. Community event ‘Call of the Beast’ as well as New Game+ is promised as part of the campaign.

Now this week, Dying Light: The Beast received a new title update and it comes packaged in a bow with using New Game+ as the ribbon. There are also other additions like PC raytracing as well as in-game Legend Levels that further deepen the game’s experience. “You can now replay Kyle’s story in New Game+ while keeping all gear, weapons and character progression from your first playthrough.

“Enemy difficulty is increased, but you’ll also encounter higher-tier weapons and loot to match the challenge. New Game+ can be repeated multiple times – each completed run further raises the game’s difficulty level and unlocks access to even stronger and rarer weapons, as well as the toughest enemies in Castor Woods,” the mode description reads.

“Legend Levels is the classic Dying Light end-game progression system that extends your character beyond the main skill tree. Once you reach Level 15, all earned XP is converted into Legend XP. Higher difficulty settings and higher New Game+ tiers increase XP gains, so the more you challenge yourself, the faster you progress.

“Each Legend Level grants Legend Points that you can spend on passive upgrades such as increased health, improved combat stats and stronger Beast Mode performance. Every level also raises your maximum health by a fixed percentage, helping you stay competitive in higher NG+ tiers.”
