More than half a year ago, there was heavy speculation in consideration to what might bring drastic changes to Xbox Live as we know it. In that, the monthly online subscription service at the time was suspected to be breaking the fee to becoming a free entity. Already, both the 12-month & 24-month subscription tiers on Microsoft Store were closed, so it appeared inevitable to go into effect. But, Microsoft denounced the raising rumor before it was too late.
It was later discovered that Microsoft’s ambition with the decision on its subscription options were to charge more for Xbox Live in favor for Xbox Game Pass. But, it was not more than a day before the company backpedaled on its decision following mass criticism from the industry. But, Epic Games is reported to be encouraging Microsoft to take the jump.
As per the revealing details that continues to emerge from the court battle between Epic Games and Apple, the Fortnite publisher is revealed pressing Microsoft in making Xbox Live multiplayer free back in August of last year.

Of course, Microsoft did eventually make free-to-play multiplayer games not require Xbox Live Gold. Last month, the Xbox company welcomed well over 50 titles that are now part of the new initiative that PC and even Sony Interactive Entertainment has offered for years now.
“At the highest levels of MS we are committed to pushing these policies and continuing to expand our console platform capabilities,” Phil Spencer wrote in response to the request. “F2P outside of Gold (we will get there and I want to partner with you),” Spencer inserted later in the email.
Atop of the online component for free-to-play titles not costing players a dime anymore on Xbox Live Gold, other features are now included in the free package. In that, Party Chat & the Looking 4 Group mechanics are also part of the free portion of the service. You can read the full report by heading here.
