When Lionhead closed earlier this month many were left wondering what, if anything, is next for the Fables universe? Now the answer has been revealed.
Fable Fortune, a free to play card game, is heading to Kickstarter. Originally developed by Lionhead for around 18 months prior to its closure, it is now being developed by Flaming Fowl. Flaming Fowl being the new indie development company co-founded by former employees of Lionhead Craig Oman, Mike West and Marcus Lynn.
The game will play very similar to Hearthstone, with players choosing from eight planned deck-altering heroes and aiming to reduce opponents’ health to zero using a variety of spell types but there will still be some twists. The company is aiming to improve the genre by using a fully 3D art style, a full online co-op mode featuring AI “bosses” and themed decks and also Trophy Cards.
Not only does it draw from Hearthstone, but unsurprisingly it draws from the original Fables series. Characters, locations and even in-jokes will feature in the series. Also karma elements will be built in the game with the ability to transform your character to an good or evil version and thus have a different hero power and even change the cards themselves.
The game is far from complete though, with the company hoping to add things such as a limited, draft-style play, 2v2 PvP modes and more. As West explains, “we’re looking to build this game with the fans.” Kickstarter backers will gain access to closed forums where those building discussions and more will take place.
