On Xbox, while there are no shortage of releases from Square Enix, its proprietary Japanese releases are favored on other platforms. The most evident of this is the continued release pattern for Final Fantasy. However, things are shifting between the publisher & Microsoft moving forward. Previously, Square Enix pledged to offer more of its titles to Xbox in the future.
Additionally, this promise was made with Final Fantasy XIV Online. In anticipation of its newest Dawntrail expansion, the Xbox systems will be integrated. Already, the beta for the game has rolled out for the platform back in February. Of course, this promise is also kept with the arrival for Visions of Mana as well.
Now in a new development speaking to Eurogamer, it is revealed that the firm is still eager to deliver more to Xbox players. According to Final Fantasy XIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida said Square Enix is adamant to continue this initiative including Xbox in its release plans going forward.
With Final Fantasy 14 as an opportunity, we can take this opportunity to strengthen the community on Xbox towards the Final Fantasy franchise. I think this is where we would take more communication and work on establishing the community moving forward. And this is important, not for Final Fantasy 14, but, I would say, for Square Enix.
With Final Fantasy 14’s release on Xbox, Phil Spencer spent a lot of his time and a lot of effort and put in a lot of hard work into making it a reality. So we would like to make the best of that and further deepen the relationship with Xbox gamers moving forward.
“Naturally, because we are Japanese developers, we have a desire for many people in our country to play our games,” Yoshida continued on the presence of Xbox in Japan, adding that it’s “really a tough point in terms of a business standpoint.” Yoshida also elaborated that” at Square Enix, we have been changing our policy.
“So now we are moving towards the policy of releasing our games on a multiplatform basis, and we really want as many players as possible to play our titles. So with Final Fantasy 14 as the starting point, we do want to release more Square Enix games on Xbox, and there will be more of our titles released on Xbox. So I hope players will look forward to future things to come on the platform.”
Atop of support from Square Enix, leadership in its teams also shared the same sentiment for more platforms to see its title prosper. Earlier in the summer, Final Fantasy XVI main director Hiroshi Takai shared support in seeing other platforms enjoy the newest installment. You can read the full report by heading here.
