The Final Fantasy XIV Online MMO has remained a staple on both PlayStation & PC for roughly a decade. That was until 2024 when Square Enix decided to ship an Xbox Series X|S version of the game with its beta going live earlier that same year. The partnership went so far as to even feature a limited-edition ‘Collector’s Edition’ bundle console themed after the game.

Additionally, Square Enix is also working on shipping the title for mobile devices as well. Reports around the time of the Xbox version’s development indicated that Android & iOS would be added to the menu for Final Fantasy XIV Online. And by November later that fall, Final Fantasy XIV Online was properly announced for the aforementioned platforms.

Now fast forward to 2026, Square Enix at its recently held Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 announced the newest expansion for Final Fantasy XIV Online with Evercold. Also, Nintendo Switch 2 is the next support platform on the way with an August 2026 release window planned. You can watch the new expansion trailer in the video below:

On the official website, Final Fantasy XIV Online: Evercold is to feature new implementations to the MMO. Seasons is to be introduced which will “overhaul to the way players earn rewards and improve their characters.” Also, a new battle system is also promised as “the Reborn Mode, based on the current combat system, and Evolved Mode, with greater emphasis on job identity,” is also in the works.

An armory update for better facilitating play with multiple jobs and expanded character customization that will offer “more ways to make your character stand out from the crowd” is also coming in Evercold. Square Enix also went ahead to tease a collab with Evangelion is also on the way to Final Fantasy XIV Online.
