When it comes to Apex Legends, the battle royale is in its own second coming. Last season, Season 27 – Amped welcomed Wild Card which breathed new life into the live-service expanding just beyond the drop & loot formula. And just as the game finds new footing, it is leaving one platform permanently. It was confirmed that Apex Legends will shutter support for Nintendo Switch later this summer in August.
As for the current state for Apex Legends, Respawn Entertainment remains hard at work. In February, the game studio rolled out Season 28 – Breach which continues following this new blueprint for the live-service as well as revamping some of its overlooked Legends. And, the firm actually addressed a proper roadmap for the battle royale which points well beyond the start of 2027 next year.
One of the biggest gripes this game has to other live-service releases is collaborations. The only proper crossovers came in the form of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth which welcomed two separate events to the game. But this week, things change from March 10th to April 14th, Gundam will be infiltrating the Outlands. You can watch the trailer in the video below:
“Drop into Wildcard and earn your wings. Broken Moon transforms into a battlefield for the event, with destroyed Mobile Suits scattered across the terrain, massive climbable Wing Gundam statues, and ships battling overhead. Grab the Buster Rifle from Care Packages and launch skyward for aerial recon, scan through walls to mark every enemy, and fire laser beams that cut through cover and explode on impact,” the synopsis reads.
“Use Bit Staves as shields to absorb damage while you push, or switch to Drone Command and send them out to patrol, scan, and attack anyone who dares trespass in your territory.” There are four new Wild Cards coming in the event: Epyon’s Lash; Heavyarms Salvo; Zero Sacrifice; Zero Rebirth. There are also two Mythic Universal Melee items inspired by Gundam with both the Epyon Heat Rod and Beam Saber.
The collaboration does not stop there with actual kits to assemble inspired by the collaboration. From Bandai Namco, there are Apex Legends-inspired Model Kits (GUNPLA) coming: RG1/144 FREEDOM GUNDAM -APEX LEGENDS™ Crypto Ver-, RG 1/144 WING GUNDAM ZERO EW -APEX LEGENDS™ Valkyrie Ver-, and RG 1/144 GUNDAM EPYON -APEX LEGENDS™ Alter Ver-.
