Discover everything you need to know about Hell is Us in this beginner’s guide, including some general strategies to initiate your journey.

Hell is Us is a 3rd-person action-adventure game that offers melee combat and a thrilling experience. This is a game of magic and modernity, of a world shattered out from our own. The gameplay unfolds within a semi-open world, stripped of navigational aids.
There’s no map, compass, quest log, or objective marker. Instead, the experience leans into environmental storytelling and play intuition. Learning the game’s mechanics is essential to progress further. Combat mechanics are kind of complex, but they provide an immersive experience. That’s why we bring the best beginner guide for Hell is Us, where we discuss every aspect of the game.
Picking a Weapon

There are four primary types of weapons in Hell Is Us. We have Twin Axes, Polearms, Swords, and Greatswords to choose from, based on the playstyle. Each weapon comes with different stats like Level, Lymbic Energy, Guard protection, Lymbic Theft, Parry Agility, and Attack Speed. Polearms have better attack speed and parry agility. When it comes to choosing your weapon, it’s really going to come down to your playstyle. Something like the Greatsword is more defensive and has a lot more Lymbic Energy. This means that it can use our Glyph abilities more often.
Twin Axes have an attack speed and a parry agility, but the Theft is a lot lower to make up for that. When it comes to your weapon choice, the best recommendation I can make is to play with all of them and get a feel for what works best for you. We also have a bunch of different weapons to Twin Axes of Esctasy, Rage, Terror, and more. When it comes to what type of emotion your weapon is assigned to, it’s very much going to come down to the preference for the type of glyphs.
You need ecstasy to overcome Rage and Rage to overcome Terror and Terror to beat Grief. The big determining factor is going to be what glyphs you want. When it comes to glyphs, a weapon can use any glyphs that have the same Lymbic Sphere as that weapon. So, a rage weapon can use rage glyphs. In addition, any weapon can use neutral glyphs.
How Combat Works in Hell is Us

Each weapon has a set number of attacks, which you can see listed on the weapon. Besides that, when we hold either Y or triangle, we also have a charge attack, which will cost Lymbic Energy. When you hold down the left trigger, it’ll pull up a UI that has three of our glyphs, as well as our active relic. Our active relic is on the B button there, and our glyphs are on Y, X, and A. If you lock on to an enemy, you can tag through all of the targets and just attack them. Getting back Lymbic Energy requires you to go ahead and attack enemies.
When land attacks on Lymbic entities, we are going to pull back temporary health that can be restored by timing a press of R1. You must time it when you see the pulse on your character because otherwise, you will not get that health back. This can be quite powerful, especially in fights. If you get really good timing, you can effectively maintain your HP without ever needing to use healing items.
Best Combat Strategies
The basic way combat works in this game is that we have Lymbic entities and hazes. The idea is that until you dispatch that Haze, you can’t really hurt the Lymbic entity. When we block, it’s just holding down either L1, just holding that down. As you block targets, they can attack you and deal some damage. However, that damage is going to slowly work through your stamina.
Besides that, we can parry, and not every attack can be parried. Getting multiple parries and draining that bar out will present you with an opportunity to go for a crate. There are a bunch of different ways that you can approach the combat in the game to find a playstyle that’s going to work for you. You can regain health and stamina during the fight while getting your timing accurate. You can simply do this by pressing RB on Xbox when you see a white circle pop up on your character. However, your weapon will determine the timing and appearance.
Use Your Drone

The best possible benefit of a drone is to use it in combat. Drone Modules are located in the world of Hadea, so make sure to find them. You can equip them to provide your drone with different abilities. Use your drone as a distractor while facing a cluster of enemies. The drone also comes with a torch that can be used in dark areas.
Defense and Relics
Defeating the enemies allows your weapons to gain XP and level up. You can upgrade them at a Blacksmith before there are level caps. Look for the tomes, Blacksmith learning materials, that is used to level up your weapons and gear. The Glyphs in your weapons can provide new abilities for your weapon. Find the relics during your journey to gain additional buffs. You can equip them from your loadout menu in the Datapad.
Good Deeds

Good Deeds are like the side quests or other objectives in the game that you can accept from several different NPCs throughout the world. Completing these objectives allows you to gain multiple rewards. There are 26 distinct Good Deeds that you can easily track from your datapad. Speaking to a person related to it or discovering an item allows them to appear on the datapad. If you complete Good Deeds in Vyssa Hills (the third location in the first main area), you can earn some valuable rewards. Speak with the NPCs and use the Trade option to find the item that you can trade with.
Complete Mysteries
Mysteries are like puzzles in Hell Is Us and are somehow similar to Good Deeds. You need to find a door or chest that must be unlocked. You can also track them in your datapad. Each area in the game has different types of mysteries. A prompt will appear on the right side of your screen when you unveil any secret while exploring the world.
Timeloops

You can locate the Timeloops in the datapad, as they are located in major locations in Hell is Us. Each area will have only one, but some can appear in other specific locations in that same area you’re in. Timeloops are big in size, making them easier to locate. Mostly enemies are surrounding them and have a spiky appearance. You need to collapse the Timeloop because it provides very violent moments. Find all the Timeloop Guardians in that area to collapse them. Make sure to defeat them, and a message will pop up on the screen that says “Timeloop Guardian Defeated”. The Timeloop will be accessible when you get the noticeable audio cue.
Amine Prism is required to collapse the Timeloop. This item is found throughout the world. Speak with an NPC in one of the main locations to get your first one to collapse a Timeloop in Vyssa Fields. Timeloops and Amine Prisms come with different colors, so you need to use the right one on them to collapse them.
After that, you can get inside the cleared Timeloop and interact with the ‘Enter the Timeloop’ prompt. If you’re missing any Timeloop Guardian, then it’ll say, “It’s too dangerous to enter Timeloop.” Now, move into your Datapad and select the ‘Drone’ tab after getting inside the Timeloop. You can earn rewards for collapsing Timeloops in Vyssa Hills.
Inventory Management
Your inventory in Hell is Us is your datapad that comes with different tabs of several items. This allows you to collect multiple items like clues, documents, and objective items, and track different things. Choose any item as your ‘favourite’ item to appear at the top of the menu. Achieving any item allows the item to appear at the bottom list. Make sure to investigate the investigations tab and check documents in your inventory.
Gather Collectibles
The game offers multiple goodies that you can find throughout the world. You will collect several useful items and objects while exploring Hadea, allowing you to open up the world. Picking up the glowing -coloured orbs is essential they can provide several benefits to your character in the game. While White Orbs are the usable items/documents that can guide you, the Green Orbs are the equipment, like defensive gear. The red orbs are consumable items that you can use during combat, and the yellow orbs are key objective items.
