One of the largest platforms in the world – PlayStation – over these past few years began to shock consumers when revealing its new PlayStation PC initiative. Via a new approach to offer its titles to a wider audience, first-party releases from Sony Interactive Entertainment would be making their way to Steam. The most recent example of this is Horizon Forbidden West coming to the platform in March this spring.
Additionally, the firm is also expressing this endeavor with live-service as well. One collaborator, Arrowhead Studios, is involved in this approach with Helldivers 2. The long-awaited sequel after jumping genres is now available across on PlayStation 5 as well as PC too. In a surge of players jumping onto the game, the release of Helldivers 2 has been a monumental moment for PlayStation.
Less than a week since the game’s release, Helldivers 2 has already surpassed all previous PlayStation releases in terms of highest concurrent players. In that, Helldivers 2 has amounted to over 200,000 players for its lifetime count thus far. It happens to be the first entry from PlayStation PC to even exceed 100,000 players as well.
The only other game that can come even close to this metric is Santa Monica Studios’ 2018 release, God of War. And even that is only recorded at about 73,000 roughly according to SteamDB charts. Other titles that tail behind that is Marvel’s Spider-Man at 66,000 and Horizon Zero Dawn at 56,000 respectively.
Looking ahead, PlayStation PC is to continue its support with more releases on the platform. Recently, it was announced that Ballistic Moon & Nixxes Software is preparing to ship Until Dawn on PC later this year in 2024. You can read the full report by heading here.
