What is Extraction in Marathon?
Extraction is a core mechanic in Marathon, where you get back to your base safely after looting crucial items and completing the objective. You lose everything you obtain during the raid if you die before extraction. Each match in Marathon follows the same loop for every extraction shooter.

How Extraction Works in Marathon
Just like ARC Raiders, the Extraction points are spawned at fixed locations on the map. The game doesn’t allow you to extract anywhere you like. You need to go to one of these exfil spots to save your loot. A countdown starts after you activate an extraction beacon in Marathon. You must defend the area during the timer by defeating the enemies who try to stop you from extraction.
You can only complete the extraction if you survive inside the exfil zone, so you must stay till the timer ends. Activating the beacon sends a visible signal into the sky, alerting enemies that someone is trying to extract.
This is where the trouble begins, as the enemies start rushing towards this beam of light to stop you. You must extract with your teammates if you’re a newbie. Clearing the area and picking a good defensive position is crucial here.
How To Find Exfil Points
You can find the extraction point on a marker on your mini-map when they become active. You have to move to one of these designated locations, as you can’t extract anywhere you want. Another exfil point may appear somewhere if one point has already been used or disappears. Marathon offers different types of Exfil points, and each comes with unique mechanics.
Crew Exfil is a standard extraction point that most players use, and you can activate it when you’re fully ready to extract. Guarded Exfils are marked on the map but come with AI defenders. Extraction from these points is challenging, but they’re closer to loot.
The Final Exfil opens at a random location for all players if they fail to extract before the timer runs out. You can also see it marked on the map, but you may encounter multiple enemies here.
The game also features a Guarded Exfil, which will be visible on your map. Once you activate that exfil, UESC reinforcements will spawn. You will need to clear the area and extract safely using the exfil beacon.
Extraction beacons make loud audio, allowing the players to spot exfil from a longer distance. Exfil nodes are often placed near major Points of Interest, so make sure to learn POI locations and rotation paths.
Don’t delay extraction too much after the exfil appears and you’re ready. Always plan a backup route to a secondary exfil point if the first beacon point disappears. Don’t try to get out of the extraction zone until it finishes.
