It has been about 24 hours since Sony Interactive Entertainment made the announcement that it will suspend physical game production starting in 2028. Since then, almost the entire video game industry and community have shared t heir thoughts. Including physical media producer, iam8bit.

iam8bit shared a statement hours after PlayStation made the announcement. They have stated they are “profoundly disappointed” in Sony’s decision to suspend physical games.

Below is the full quote:

“We are profoundly disappointed by Sony’s decision to suspend physical games production in 2028.

Physical games are vital to games preservation, ownership, and consumer choice, values that have guided iam8bit since our first physical release in 2016.

Our commitment to these values remains unchanged. Long live physical media.”

iam8bit is known for producing physical games for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. They have also dived into the vinyl market that has become very popular among the community.

So far, Sony has not addressed the negative comments since they made this announcement. Time will only tell if they will revert this decision.
