2020 surely has been a first of upsetting events for the gaming industry: the first ever cancellation of the summer annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) alongside the dismantling QuakeCon right before the event’s 25th anniversary. Of course, this is sourced primarily from the COVID-19 pandemic which resulted with organizers to retract hosting the named shows to preserve public health from continuing spread of the ailment.
However, this has also led to introducing the implementation of digital alternative events such as the ones that Microsoft & Ubisoft will be pursuing since the two companies will not be visiting Los Angeles this coming June. This year also introduces the first ever event to feature developers and console firms coming from IGN.
Announced today, the video game outlet announced ‘Summer of Gaming’: the event will be hosted online and the digital experience will showcase some of the biggest announcement coming from the biggest names in the industry. Here are just some of the studios/companies mentioned in the announcement:
- 2K
- Amazon
- Bandai Namco
- Digital Devolver
- Google Stadia
- Sega
- Square Enix
- THQ Nordic
The post also lists that “and more” are set to be featured in this virtual showcase, but were not directly shared in the article. “With the next generation of console gaming kicking off later this year and gamers eager to learn more about what games they’ll be playing on their new hardware, our online event will be a key moment for publishers and developers to connect with the audience worldwide,” IGN Chief Content and Product Officer Peer Schneider shared on the matter.
Adding to the convenience of the consumer, IGN then discloses that this upcoming digital event will be the most accessible for viewers across the globe. Spreading across 112 countries with support up to 25 different languages, most watching will be comfortable with the outcome the website urges. Atop of coverage available not only on the titular domain, but can also be found on social media applications like Facebook, Snapchat, Tik Tok, and Twitter, there is no reason you cannot watch the showcase later this year.
What do you think might be announced from the listed companies that will be participating in the event?
