Although the fighting game genre does appear to continue surrounding Mortal Kombat thanks primarily due to the recent theatrical film that arrived in mid April, there are still fans hungry for a new release for other fighting game franchises, of course. One that has not been retouched for quite a few years is Killer instinct. But, there are a significant amount of fans that are hungry for a new entry.

While not connected, NetherRealm Studios’ Ed Boon on Twitter polled which game should be brought back for a new installment. While EA’s Def Jam was crowned the winner, Killer Instinct did make second place in the post with roughly 31 percent of the votes going to the game.

And its fans are not alone as Killer Instinct (2013) developer Iron Galaxy Studios is also on board to make a new game, but if Microsoft gives the go. When speaking to SegmentNext, the game studio does spare its “love” to work on a new game.

We loved working on Killer Instinct, and we had a great time supporting that community. They still ask us to update that experience every day on social media and we really appreciate the enduring enthusiasm. Like any other opportunity that comes our way, if KI ever presented itself again, we’d consider it.

Shekar Dhupelia, iron Galaxy Studios General Manager

Despite the eagerness to work on another Killer Instinct, the statement no way confirms a new release is in the developer’s playbook. In the discussion with the outlet, Iron Galaxy Studios does iterate on its plans with other titles branching across different genres and platforms.

Previously, Killer Instinct happened to be one of the early pioneers for touch screen controls. At the time, the game was welcomed with support alongside Dead Cells, Streets of Rage 4, and UnderMine. You can read the full report by heading here.

Are you hoping a new Killer Instinct will come to fruition?
