This weekend users discovered that Machinma’s YouTube channel completely cleaned house on all of their uploads, taking the internet by surprise as the news started breaking. Only days after the company’s merger with Otter Media, all of the videos that have been uploaded to the channel since 2006 have been removed with no prior warning.
Machinima for the past year have been going through drastic changes with which content is chosen to be on their platform. Content creators following the merge were issued an email that they will be moved to FullScreen, while others got left behind as they were completely dropped from the network.
Seeing the sudden mass video removal ultimately shows what some might say as “the end of an era” as Machinima is one of the main foundations for video game content creation since the dawn of YouTube. Former Machinima employees took it to Twitter to reflect on the impact the platform had on them and their career.

For what’s next for Machinima will unravel as time progresses. Looking back on the debacle surrounding creators not being compensated for their content under the network, hopefully there will be more promising agreements with FullScreen to be at the helm of the 12.4 Million subscriber channel.
