Came the announcement of Mafia: The Old Country, it was exciting to learn that the game will be a prequel that stands alone from the original trilogy. And, that it will be a cheaper $50 release too. Not to mention when eagle-eyed fans quickly pointed out that this new installment will be sharing the same location as the prologue in 2010’s Mafia 2 as well.

In our review, Rectify Gaming scored Mafia: The Old Country a 9/10. “story that makes you bleed, laugh, and curse in Sicilian all in the same breath. The graphics will blow your fedora off, the gameplay’s smoother than Sinatra, and the story’s got enough heart to remind you why family, no matter the sacrifice, always comes first.”

Now this week, developer Hanger 13 shipped a new free update for Mafia: The Old Country. ‘Free Ride Update’ includes first-person driving, challenge mode, Classic Difficulty, photo mode, and ‘Cinema Siciliano Mode’. You can watch the update trailer in the video below:

“Free Ride is a callback to the original Mafia’s Free Ride Extreme, as well as the Free Ride mode we shipped in Mafia: Definitive Edition,” 2K content manager Peter Amato writes. “It’s a collection of Challenges separate from the main story that give players chances to revisit the world in a more self-guided way. Mafia: The Old Country’s Free Ride mode will be slightly different from previous titles, yet familiar to returning fans all the same.

“This time, we’ve constructed several kinds of repeatable Challenges—including combat, stealth, and different race types—in a variety of new and familiar locations. Completing Challenges will earn you the Dinari in-game currency to spend on the new outfits, charms, weapons, and vehicles unlocked by progressing through this content (as well as on items unlocked via the campaign). We’ve also included a number of other fresh and exciting features for players to sink their teeth into, and I hope fans enjoy them.”
