Discover everything you need to know about how to do breeding in Mewgenics, including how to manage the home stats.
Breeding in Mewgenics is a unique feature that allows you to create a cat army for the tough expeditions. This mechanic allows you to generate new cats with inherited traits, stats, abilities, and mutations. Each night, the game checks your house conditions and has a chance to produce one or two kittens if conditions are right.
You see what parents they came from once the kitten appears. Strong bloodlines mean higher success on runs, leading to better loot and more food. Donating kittens to NPCs unlocks visibility into key breeding traits. Without breeding, your progression is only tactical and short‑term.

What is Breeding In Mewgenics?

Breeding in Mewgenics is a unique mechanic where two cats mate in the base to produce a kitten. These kittens inherit traits, stats, abilities, mutations, and even disorders from their parents. Breeding is highly influenced by the environment and compatibility.
This process triggers at the end of each in‑game day if cats are in the same room. You get 1 to 2 kittens by the next morning when mating occurs.
You can’t take the kitten on the adventure on the same day till they get matured. Only adult cats of opposite gender can produce kittens. Each cat has a gender like male, female, or “?/ditto” with sexuality like straight, bisexual, or gay. Gay cats cannot produce offspring even if they pair.
On the other hand, Bisexual and ditto cats have more breeding options in Mewgenics. Kittens may inherit Strength, Dexterity, or Speed from their parents. The home base environment matters in the breeding process, so managing these stats is crucial in every aspect. You use breeding to build stronger bloodlines for difficult runs.
Manage House Stats For Breeding

The house stats in Mewgenics determine how cats behave, how breeding works, and the quality of the kittens. Managing them is crucial if you want a strong stats kitten. While the Comfort determines if cats breed or fight, the Stimulation affects kitten quality. Health influences injury recovery, and Mutation increases random trait changes.
I recommend placing furniture that boosts Comfort in rooms and choosing items that raise Stimulation for rooms. Enhance the quality of strays by adding Appeal pieces. These stats are influenced by the furniture you place in each room, cleanliness, room expansions, and the number of cats in a room. Below are all the stats that you must manage for a successful breeding in Mewgenics.
- Comfort: Helps cats stay calm and breed with higher Comfort. Cats may fight, injure, or even kill each other with low Comfort.
- Stimulation: Determines how well kittens inherit good stats and skills. The room with high Stimulation increases the chances for the kittens to get the high parent values.
- Health: Affects whether cats recover from injuries or diseases. The cat gets sick and cuts short lifespans with a low Health stat.
- Mutation: Enhance the chance of random genetic mutations. This can be powerful or harmful, so prefer using this stat wisely.
- Appeal: This stat applies to the house, not just the room. The higher this stat, the better quality stray cats appear each day.
Make sure to remove the dead cats and manage illness to keep the house stats healthier. Too many cats in one room lowers comfort levels and can lead to fights. You need to keep breeding populations separate to control inbreeding.
Gender and Sexual Orientation of Cats

Cats have three genders that affect whether they can biologically produce kittens in Mewgenics. Male, Female, and ? are the three separate genders of cats. The last one acts as either male or female for breeding purposes.
Two cats of the same plain gender cannot produce kittens. A Ditto cat can take on either reproductive role needed. This type of cat can produce offspring with male, female, bisexual, or gay cats. The sexual orientation of the cats determines whom they attempt to mate with.
Straight cats can produce offspring if paired with an opposite‑gender cat. Gay or Lesbian can make but do not produce kittens. Bisexual can produce kittens if paired with an opposite‑gender partner.
You must unlock features by donating kittens to Tink to see a cat’s sexuality and libido in their info screen. Gay cats can enhance the chance of similar gay strays appearing, so they’re not useless. Dittos can bypass rigid gender restrictions, making them useful for breeding.
| Breeding partner | Result |
| Male + Female (both straight/bisexual) | Kittens possible |
| Male + Male | No Kittens |
| Female + Female | No Kittens |
| Ditto + Male or Ditto + Female | Kittens possible |
| Gay + Opposite gender (with ditto) | Kittens Possible |
| Bisexual + Opposite gender | Kittens possible |
How To Avoid Inbreeding

Inbreeding in Mewgenics occurs when related cats breed with each other. Kittens are more likely to have birth defects that lower stats. Negative traits can degrade your bloodline. Use strays for fresh genetics and keep cats from the same family line apart.
Make sure to bring in stray cats regularly, as using them as breeding partners is one of the simplest ways to refresh the gene pool.
Increase the stat like Appeal with furniture to make the strays appear more regularly. I recommend donating enough kittens to Tink to unlock the family tree view. You need to check if two cats share ancestors before breeding them. The inbred icon indicates that a cat has inbreeding issues.
Mark cats from the same family line and keep relatives in different rooms. You must pair cats that are from distinct family lines. Dedicate a breeding room with high Comfort and Stimulation for planned pairs. Don’t always reuse the same pair of strong cats, but mix in strays and unrelated cats occasionally.
Mutations, Disorders, and Diseases in Mewgenics

Mutations in Mewgenics influence a cat through traits. Disorders are permanent conditions, and Diseases are temporary ailments. A cat can get the Mutations through breeding or in‑game interactions. Once a cat gets a mutation, it can pass that trait down to its offspring.
Some mutations give a net positive bonus, while rarer mutations grant purely positive effects. There are multiple mutations, ranging from enhanced physical traits like Extra Limb to elemental body mutations. Make sure to try breeding for positive mutations.
Birth Defects and Disorders are traits that can also be inherited. They have negative effects on a cat’s performance. Disorders are permanent genetic conditions inherited from parents. Diseases are temporary conditions that can be cured. They apply penalties or negative effects while the cat is afflicted. Some diseases can spread to other cats in the same room.
Cats can recover over time when placed in stats with high-health room. Make sure to keep a high Health stat in rooms and dismiss or donate diseased cats to NPCs. Decorate rooms with furniture that boosts Health and Mutation to favor good traits. A cat with high INT might make a great mage.
Hidden Stats for Breeding

Cats in Mewgenics each have several hidden personal traits. These stats can affect how likely they are to breed, fight, form relationships, or produce kittens. These become visible once you unlock upgrades from NPC Tink by donating kittens. Below are all the hidden traits of cats, including how to manage them.
| Trait | Affect | How To Manage |
| Libido | It determines how often a cat wants to breed. Low libido means less frequent mating, even if conditions are good. | Try pairing high libido cats together to maximize kitten production. You need to separate low‑libido cats or move them to another room. |
| Mood | A cat’s tendency to fight with other cats in the house. More fighting with high aggression. | Place furniture that boosts Comfort to calm cats down before breeding. Separate highly aggressive cats into another room or outside. |
| Affinities | Permanent emotional connections between cats. Cats in love are more likely to breed with each other. | Keep rival cats apart before ending the day to avoid fights. Keep the loved ones together on breeding nights. |
| Breeding Status | Determine how inbred or genetically close a cat’s ancestry is. Higher inbreeding increases the chance of birth defects in kittens. | Use the family tree view to check ancestry before breeding. Put stray cats from outside your house to keep your gene pool healthy. |
Make sure to increase household Comfort with furniture when libido and affinity are good, but breeding still fails. Move high‑aggression cats away from your breeding room to reduce fights. Use stray cats to reduce inbreeding and keep breeding status low.
How To Donate Unwanted Cats

You can find a donation tube in your house UI. Use this to send unwanted cats to town NPCs in Mewgenics. The cat is permanently removed from your roster when you donate it. This unlocks permanent bonuses, upgrades, and furniture as rewards. This is essential for long‑term progression, quality of life, breeding tools, and better house stats.
Make sure to send young kittens to Tink early to unlock information. Donate injured cats to Baby Jack when you want rare furniture. Donating cats isn’t just for upgrades because it allows you to keep Comfort high and prevent overcrowding. Below are all the NPCs, required cats, and rewards in Mewgenics.
| NPC | Required Cat | Reward |
| Butch | Retired from adventures | More item storage slots |
| Frank | Retired | More rooms for your house. |
| Baby Jack | Injured | Access to rarer furniture items. |
| Tink | Kittens | Crucial breeding UI upgrades like Libido, Aggression, Inbred icons, Affinities, family tree views, base stats & bonus stat displays. |
| Dr. Beanies | Mutants | Invention side quests and unique items or gadgets. |
| Mystery Man | Dead | Recovers one lost item from a failed expedition run. |
| Tracy | Old cats | Useful bonuses like food storage boxes, blank collars, special doll furniture with house stat boosts. |
It can be tempting to keep every strong cat, but sometimes sacrificing cats can increase your breeding and combat potential. Save experienced adventurers for Butch and Frank to expand storage.
