The current headspace over at Microsoft is delivering more Xbox experiences to players regardless of platform. The most recent example of this is Forza Horizon 5 which is coming to PlayStation 5 next month. And, that will probably not be the end of it. According to Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, the plans to wall off certain games from moving beyond Xbox is not part of the foundation for this new initiative.

What it means to be on Xbox is also being redefined. Part of the ‘This Is An Xbox’ campaign refocuses from console to the reaching ecosystem across mobile, PC, and even Meta Quest. However, Spencer does argue that there are perks to being on Xbox still. In that, cross-buy implementation and proprietary hardware will keep Xbox from standing out despite practically its selling force releasing elsewhere soon.

The firm even addressed Nintendo & PlayStation will be showcased in future presentations it hosts as well. Looking ahead, Microsoft solidifies this new effort in anticipation for GDC later in March. In a posting for its attendance, the Xbox firm offers attendees to “discover what it means for Xbox to be playable on any screen” as previously platformed by Microsoft.

“Xbox is expanding to any screen on any device, making it easier for anyone to play with the friends they want – whether they choose to play with Xbox console, PC, Smart TV or mobile. At GDC, we’re inviting game developers to go behind the scenes to better understand what it means for Xbox to be playable on any screen,” general manager of developer marketing Tammy Levine writes.

“We’re committed to empowering game developers to tap into that opportunity by building cross-capable games that take advantage of Xbox across devices. Our presence will reveal the many ways game developers can reach more players with Xbox and showcase success stories of developers who are maximizing the opportunity.”

The posting also teases that Microsoft will offer “attendees that come by the Xbox Lounge in Moscone South will have a chance to see the latest Xbox experience on PC.” Prior, Microsoft has been adamant to reshape its presence on Xbox and even says full implementation into Windows is a big driver for the firm.
