When reflecting back on the projected quantity of titles that will be available on Xbox Series X and the then-codenamed Project Lockhart, Microsoft said roughly one thousand titles will be primed for release later this holiday. And while that is a lot to go one when divided between original Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, there is still plenty more that can be added.
Now, that number is only being increased according to a new announcement made on Twitter. In a post made by Jason Ronald, Director of Product Management for Xbox, he disclosed that Microsoft has finally finished testing for backwards compatibility for Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. And that him and the team came to the conclusion that all games that are currently playable on Xbox One will be available at launch for the next-generation systems.
Not to confuse anyone, Ronald specifies that, of course, all Xbox One games will be available on day one. But for Xbox & Xbox 360, there is a catch: only titles currently supported through backwards compatibility will be available then. So do not expect new additions when the consoles launch next month. Ronald also reiterates on the Kinect-supported titles also to be absent at launch also.
While there is no determined timeframe for when more titles will be integrated through the backwards compatibility program, Microsoft does suggest work is being done to add to the catalogue. Ronald in an interview with Game Informer previously stated the internal teams are investigating on how to overcome obstacles for more titles to be added.
