While Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service continues to serve the company as its most adventurous venture yet, the monthly subscription is showing to be paying off in long-term. As of this past April, Xbox Game Pass is reported to be offering its extended library to more than 23 million subscribers, as per Windows Central’s Jez Corden.
However, Microsoft is pursuing other avenues for its service. In one statement from Microsoft, the Xbox company shares to be discussing with TV manufacturers to create a dedicated application for smart TVs. “Xbox is working with global TV manufacturers to embed the Xbox experience directly into internet-connected televisions with no extra hardware required except a controller.” But expanding to other platforms altogether – such as Nintendo or PlayStation – Xbox lead Phil Spencer said that is not happening anytime soon.
In a new statement from Microsoft, a spokesperson told Axios last month that there is still no word on the future for Xbox Game Pass – coming to Nintendo Switch, at least. “I can’t comment on any specifics around that relationship as it relates to Game Pass.”
But, there is surely hope that perhaps the service will be strapped to the Nintendo eShop later on. Already, Microsoft surprisingly greenlit the port for Cuphead, Ori and the Blind Forest, and Ori and the Whispers of the Wisps in the past. So this could signify a potential stretch to offer the service to new users on Nintendo Switch. Previously, one claim told that a Xbox Game Pass app was in development for Nintendo Switch at the time.
Elsewhere, there also happens to be a rumor suggesting Steam to expect Xbox Game Pass as well. The platform already offers EA Play through the storefront, so it would not be a large surprise for the service to also make its way to Steam at some point. You can read the full report by heading here.
