Monster Hunter: World was released in 2018 and since that time the game has become a huge hit for Capcom as it reached a brand new milestone. Capcom announced that Monster Hunter: World has sold over 25 million units worldwide just in time to celebrate 20 years of Monster Hunter this month.

On top of World selling over 25 million units, the entire Monster Hunter franchise has sold 97 million units as of December 31, 2023.

“Celebrating its 20th anniversary in March 2024, the Monster Hunter series consists of hunting action games that pit players against giant monsters in beautiful natural environments. Beginning with the first title in 2004, the series established a new genre in which players cooperate to hunt ferocious monsters with their friends and has since grown into a global phenomenon with cumulative sales of the series exceeding 97 million units as of December 31, 2023.”

Monster Hunter: World became the best-selling Capcom game ever to release within the first month it launched six years ago.

Capcom now prepares for the release of Monster Hunter Wilds which they announced at The Game Awards in December 2023. The next entry in the series is expected to launch sometime in 2025.
