Mortal Kombat Boss Ed Boon Is Open To A Street Fighter Collab, Interview Reveals

The current reign of popular fighting games are at a new peak with both major franchises releasing motion pictures in 2026. Both Mortal Kombat as well as Street Fighter are to launch with new, live-action films. Mortal Kombat II releases this week with domestic preview starting on Thursday. The series has also been active with the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection which shipped this past fall.

Similarly, Capcom’s Street Fighter is also hitting the box office as well. Instead, it will be releasing later on October 16th. The current Street Fighter VI is still receiving plenty of support with Ingrid being added to the roster on May 28th. And, leaks point towards the next wave of DLC additions to feature some notable characters from Final Fantasy, it is claimed.

Now with theaters preparing for the release of Mortal Kombat II, NetherRealm Studios boss Ed Boon recently spoke to Collider about the IP. Alongside addressing the movie, he also spoke out on the relationship with Street Fighter. He is a fan of the feud that spans over three decades and even admitted he is interested in seeing both franchises collab in some way in the future.

“I would love to see a Street Fighter character in Mortal Kombat. I think that would be cool. I’m a huge fan of Street Fighter as well. We’ve had Joker, who was a really dark character, but DC and Marvel would be a lot of fun to see those characters as well,” Boon shares in an answer. He listed film characters like RoboCop & Rambo that inspired him which later made appearances in the games.

The Mortal Kombat head also teases that the game studio is already working on a new game without giving details. “we’re definitely pursuing another Mortal Kombat game, and we’re definitely doing more, as well, so there are a lot of parts on the stove, not just with games, though, with other forms of media and whatnot. So, we’ve got a lot of great announcements that are coming.”

Recently, it was also rumored that Injustice is back in the pipeline for a third entry. The series has been on hold for roughly a decade and fans are eager to see the DC Comics fighting game make a return. You can read the full report by heading here.
