Announced today on the Need for Speed subreddit that Ghost Games will be adding an update to Payback as a response to the problem people have had in progressing with either leveling up or upgrading their car.
The list of changes below primarily increases awards like experience, Bank and rep.
- Increased the amount of REP awarded by taking part in events.

- Bait crates now reward increased REP.

- Competing against a Roaming Racer will reward you with increased REP.
- Competing against a Roaming Racer will reward you with increased Bank.
- Air Suspension will now appear more frequently within Shipments.
- Slightly increased REP and Bank for finishing an event outside of first place.
Today’s changes are just phase one and we have further tweaks coming. Coming shortly will be some changes to the way tune-up shops work, especially around the quality / level of parts they stock. More on that soon.
It is worth noting that we do encourage you to recycle your speed cards for tokens. Targeted rolls are a very good alternative to tune-up shops. Definitely worth buying out the parts from the tune-up shop and recycling them.
There seems to be a trend recently with EA that they want to answer the fans who’ve called out for changes, which is a large amount. Of course with Star Wars: Battlefront II, resulting ultimately to temporarily cut all microtransactions hours before the game’s official launch. For a short time will look good, but will eventually return and not be the right answer to the problem.
Even in the statement by them regarding the update for Payback; this helps those who’ve been held back from progressing, but this still doesn’t seem it will satisfy what the real problem is. To “buy out the parts” and “recycle them” isn’t what answer to the problem. The fact that this option is still there and we’re left to play the lottery to upgrade our cars will still push people away.
This was one of the major points in our review that kept it from the freedom that was seemed promised when first announced.
