When the Neverwinter: The Maze Engine expansion launches on PC March 15th and later on Xbox One, it will come with a new campaign focused on mounts. A few details were released, but we reached out to PR in order to clarify some things to help you understand the new campaign. These details will help you better understand how the system works.
There will be two tabs in the campaign listed as Stable and Mount. Let’s start with the Mount tab and go from there. The Mount tab will consist of all the current mounts you own. Pretty simple, right? In this tab you will be able to adjust four separate attributes for each individual mount
- Appearance
- Speed/Durability
- Passive Power  – Epic and Legendary only
- Combat Power – Legendary only
These will let you, for example, upgrade an epic 110% speed mount to legendary speed. If you do upgrade an epic to a legendary level attribute, only the attribute changes not the mount level itself. Therefore, you will not be granted Combat Power abilities simply by upgrading epic mounts’ attributes to a legendary level. The ability to unlock and increase each attribute will be earned through tasks. This is also an outstanding benefit for those who wish solely for more speed to get around more quickly, while also not spending money on Zen.
Next is the Stable tab. This allows each mount to be equipped with either two or three insignias depending on your mount’s level. Epic and Legendary will have three slots, below levels will have a max of two. These insignias consist of five separate shapes, each of which provide different attribute boosts for your character when they are applied to your mount. These function similarly to companion runestones.
- Crescent
- Enlightened
- Barbed
- Regal
- Illuminated
There will be 30 possible insignias at launch, with each of the five shapes having six different boosts. Each one provides the same amount of boost number wise, only to different categories. For example, the Aggression provides 50 Armor pen and 25 action point gain while the Vigor will grant you 50 movement an 25 stamina gain. There will also be set bonuses similar to your artifact weapon set bonuses. For example, equipping three specific insignias such as two Barbed and an Enlightened may trigger a specific boost unavailable if you only three Crescents equipped. The developer promises a total of 14 bonuses for three insignia mounts (epic/legendary) and 10 two insignia bonuses for lesser quality mounts.
Which ones you equip will also need to be swapped out for good strategy depending on the character you are using at the time. Personally, I use a Spellstorm Mage Control Wizard so I’m going to need Armor pen and Life Steal predominantly. As a result, Aggression and Leeching insignias would be my choice respectively. A Trickster Rogue, on the other hand, may need to go with the Skill insignia for the bonus crit.
These insignias will be available from enemy drops. They are sellable for the standard price of 2.5 silver, so you will have the ability to search for specific ones you desire on the trade house. The new campaign will be available March 15th on PC, but no specific date for Xbox One yet.
Neverwinter is currently in its 8th expansion, Underdark, which features the story line of Drizz’t Do’Urden by acclaimed author R.A. Salvatore. The Maze Engine expansion will take place directly after these events.
