The Assassin’s Creed series currently sits in less desirable light following the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Despite answering the cries for a Feudal Japan title, fans are more anxious for the future of the series than ever. So in February, the publisher appointed series veteran to oversee the IP. As part of its roadmap moving forward the new franchise bosses highlighted efforts like Year 2 for Shadows, updates on Hexe, and the announcement for the Black Flag remake.
Just this past week, it officially confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Resynced is coming in July 2026. However, there is more on the way for the Assassin’s Creed series than just the 2013 remake. Previously, it was confirmed by Yves Guillemot that remakes – as in multiple titles – are in development. And with the glowing reaction to Resynced, insiders are confident other remakes being discussed are to move forward now.
On X, user @xj0nathan corroborated on a story from Insider Gaming. The leaker disclosed that from a conversation with a Ubisoft contact in 2023, he understands the other remake project attached to Assassin’s Creed is for the inaugural 2007 entry.

Additionally, new updates have emerged on the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Hexe. Project Hexe was announced back in 2022 alongside Shadows & mobile title Jade. The game is posed to be an entry taking place in Germany during the age of the Holy Roman Empire. Via LinkedIn, game director Benoit Richer shared he has moved on from Ubisoft to start a new venture forming Servo Games. Richer was a successor to the previous departing game director in late 2025.
In conjunction with the update on Hexe, Insider Gaming also indicated that staffing has also been reduced for the development team too. The report says roughly 50 employees were faced with layoffs on the next mainline Assassin’s Creed game. The blog also goes to elaborate on fundamental changes sourced by @xj0nathan that many of its fantastical magic elements were stripped from the project. It is said that Jean Guesdon made the decision for a grounded story vehicle.
Are you surprised by these recent updates on some of the next Assassin’s Creed projects?
